MATTER SPACE SOUL IS A SPATIAL DESIGN LAB AND STUDIO SPECIALISING IN HUMAN-CENTRIC DESIGN, NEUROARCHITECTURE AND BIOPHILIC APPROACHES.

WHAT WE DO
Making Places that Matter. Spaces with Soul.
Our mission is to spark a step-change toward more humane, healthy, socially-conscious, inclusive and equitable places.
By enhancing the human experience of the built environment, we help forward-thinking organisations, developers, architects, design teams, brands and communities make places and projects that support people to flourish and thrive.
MATTER SPACE SOUL was created by founder Natasha Reid, who began developing new approaches for humanistic design from 2013, building on her earlier career at award-winning architecture studios.

COMPASSIONATE PLACES
The studio works at the intersection of architecture and design, the human sciences and the arts.
Our "Compassionate Places" approach focuses on enhancing people's quality of life by designing places based on how they affect people. This includes considering human behaviours, needs, experience and emotions.

This can apply to any environment that people inhabit: From housing, neighbourhoods, offices, schools and hospitals, to community spaces, cultural infrastructure, public realm, city centres or new towns.

The studio works across architecture, urban design, public art, visual arts and research projects.
We have a purpose-driven model, blending commercial, artistic, academic and advocacy activities to make impact and influence industry norms.

DESIGN INNOVATION
The studio operates as a space for cross-disciplinary exploration, innovation and commercial projects with a network of collaborators in private, public and academic sectors.
Natasha is recognised as a thought-leader and expert in this field, and was profiled as a "Groundbreaker" by international architecture andesign authority Wallpaper* magazine in 2021.
"While it is common for architecture professionals to place their user at the heart of their processes, taking an approach on the matter as proactive as that of Reid’s is far rarer. Her team follows a research-led path, working with psychologists and other science specialists in an effort to shape the invisible and create ‘joyful, soulful’ places."
